Letter to Mrs. Bird, sent one week after Pearl Harbor. In part: “Since we are now actively at war I shall not be able to go south this winter. As I have offered my services, such as they are, to the President, it will now be necessary for me to remain close at hand…It looks now as though I would be quite busy for some time.” In fine condition, with a trivial spot to left edge.
